History of Artwalk

Artwalk The year was 1988.
A local artist and art advocate, Anne DeGrace, brought the idea home.

ArtWalk has continued through the years, with many local businesses becoming galleries, providing even more venues for the growing number of artists living in the Nelson region.

Every Summer’s ArtWalk in Nelson’s downtown core offers a delightful exhibition of new and established artists, highlighting and celebrating their work in multiple venues.

We welcome you to join hundreds of other locals and visitors on this self-guided tour throughout beautiful downtown Nelson, to enjoy wonderful artwork,  eclectic venues, and diverse offerings, giving you a taste of what this charming little arts town is all about…

As soft-impact tourism, ArtWalk is non polluting and is inclined to attract people respectful of the community while generating community pride. As an agent for community development, ArtWalk is a fabulous opportunity to partner business with art. As a walking tour of regional visual art, Nelson’s ArtWalk exhibits multiple artists in  gallery venues during the summer months.  As a tourist draw it brings people from all across Canada and from the US to our town.  We love our ArtWalk!

Artwalk is a project of the Nelson District Arts Council, presented each year with support and involvement from local artists, residents, businesses, and organizations alike.

We thank the following supporters for helping to make ArtWalk happen:
