Terms of Reference
PURPOSE: To provide artists with a “retreat style” setting in order to work on or develop their Art in the areas of visual art, creative writing including music composition.
DURATION: One week shared residency with food allowance. Date for 2024: TBC between The Narrows and the successful applicant. Boat travel will be provided to and from the retreat centre with one additional round trip for supplies/food if necessary.
APPLICATION AREA: The catchment area is the West Kootenays, however preference will be given to supporting work that is either shown, presented, or created in Nelson, RDCK areas E and/or F.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS: Using the online form provided by NDAC, please provide:
- A brief bio
- Examples of experience and any previous involvement with arts organizations (resume)
- Links to your artist website or online portfolio and/or your artist YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, SoundCloud or Spotify (if applicable)
- An artist statement outlining the intended outcomes from the residency
- A brief proposal around how you might recognize the support of NDAC (for example: limited rights of NDAC to the created work, or acknowledgement of NDAC’s support in the development of the work)
EXPECTATIONS OF ARTIST IN RESIDENCE:
- Artists do not pay any rent for residency, work studio or studio space.
- A food allowance is included in the Residency.
- All other requirements of the artist must be organized and provided by the artist.
- The artist will prepare their own meals and keep the living and working spaces clean.
- The artist will attend an NDAC meeting to discuss their time at the Residency.
- The artist will propose what to offer NDAC in recognition of the Residency.
ADMINISTRATION: An NDAC Committee will administer the Residency program, including advertising, and will arrange for the adjudication of applications and follow-up notice to all applicants. The Committee will meet as required to ensure proper management of the program.
