We are hiring! The Assistant Mural Coordinator will play a vital role in the planning and execution of the Nelson International Mural Festival, supporting all aspects of event coordination, artist relations, and logistics. This position requires a proactive, organized, and flexible individual who is passionate about community arts and enjoys working in a dynamic environment. This is a full-time, in-person, 8-week position in Nelson, BC.
Key Responsibilities
Event Coordination
-Assist with the planning and coordination of festival events, from conception to completion.
-Help coordinate mural placements, artist schedules, and logistics.
-Disseminate street and alley closure information to affected businesses.
-Support the coordination of volunteers for mural creation and festival weekend activities.
-Assist with the distribution of promotional materials, including posters, brochures, and signage.
Artist Support
-Welcome visiting muralists and performance artists, ensuring their needs are met.
-Coordinate paint, scaffolding, safety equipment, and supply orders in collaboration with artists and suppliers.
-Complete wall preparation tasks, including pressure washing and priming surfaces.
-Address concerns raised by building owners or artists promptly, relaying them to the Mural Coordinator.
Administrative Tasks
-Communicate regularly with the Mural Coordinator and Festival Coordinator, providing updates on activities (daily or weekly as agreed upon).
-Forward bills to the Executive Director for approval and payment.
-Adhere to the festival budget as determined by the Board of Directors.
Festival and Community Engagement
-Attend local events on behalf of the Arts Council to promote the festival.
-Provide on-site support during the mural festival, including setup and teardown on the event weekend.
-Build working relationships with partnering organizations to enhance festival impact.
Other Duties
-Receive training in lift operation and assist with related tasks during the festival.
-Perform other duties as required to ensure the successful execution of the mural festival.
-Other duties as assigned.
Eligibility requirements
To be eligible to participate in the Canada Summer Jobs initiative, individuals must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment; be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and, have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
This is a full-time, Canada Summer Jobs position.
35 hours per week, for a period of 8 weeks.
Preferred start date is June 30, 2025, with the position ending on August 25, 2025.
Compensation: $21.50 / hour
