Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join our team as an Assistant Mural and Festival Coordinator. This role will involve working closely with the current festival coordinator to oversee all aspects of our annual mural festival. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in coordinating the mural production team, managing artist accommodations and supplies, overseeing festival weekend activities, and supporting various teams to ensure the success of the event. There will be fairly light administrative duties in May and June, and the majority of the on site work will be in July and early August.
Responsibilities
- Assist in coordinating the mural production team, including scheduling, task delegation, permit acquisition and ensuring timely completion of murals.
- Manage artist accommodations, transportation, and supply needs, ensuring a smooth experience for all participating artists.
- Oversee festival weekend activities, including staffing, setup, signage, artist interactions, and crowd management.
- Liaise with curators to understand and advance their vision for the festival, ensuring alignment with overall goals and objectives.
- Support the marketing team in promoting the festival through various channels, including social media, press releases, and community outreach efforts.
- Collaborate with staff to source sponsorships and maintain relationships with existing sponsors, ensuring their continued support for future festivals.
- Assist with budget management, expense tracking, and reporting as needed.
- Take on additional responsibilities and tasks as assigned by the festival coordinator.
- Share and actively uphold the values of the Nelson & District Arts Council, including support for and celebration of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Commit to upholding a safe and inclusive space for co-workers, artists, and patrons, including taking actions to ensure an environment free of harassment, racism, ableism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in event coordination, project management, or related fields.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of or interest in street art, muralism, and public art projects.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other relevant software applications.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required during peak festival periods.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred, but not required.
