About the presenter: Shawnee Kish stands out as an acclaimed Mohawk singer-songwriter whose powerful soul voice and compelling narrative create a truly unforgettable experience. With a proven ability to deeply connect with audiences, Shawnee bravely transforms her personal journey—from navigating her Two-Spirit identity to overcoming childhood depression—into profound, vulnerable artistry that resonates universally.

A recognized force in the Canadian music scene, Shawnee’s professional excellence is underscored by significant accolades. She is a multiple JUNO Award nominee, first in 2022 for her self-titled debut EP, and again in 2024 with two nods for Revolution (Adult Alternative Album Of The Year, Contemporary Indigenous Artist Of The Year). Her compelling sound has also garnered wins for CBC Music’s prestigious Searchlight competition (2020) and selection for the Allan Slaight JUNO Master Class (2021). Shawnee’s collaborations speak to her caliber, including work with industry luminaries like Arkells’ Max Kerman, Serena Ryder, Sara Quin of Tegan & Sara, and hitmaker Dan Wilson (Adele, Taylor Swift).
Beyond her captivating performances, Shawnee is a dedicated advocate, driven by a deep belief in music as medicine to empower youth. Her impactful initiatives include creating “Music Is My Medicine,” a symphonic work performed with the National Arts Centre Orchestra for CBC Gem’s Undisrupted, highlighting Indigenous youth voices. She actively partners with organizations like Kids Help Phone, notably lending her voice to Serena Ryder’s 2023 all-star charity single “What I Wouldn’t Do.”

As a new mom and proud Two-Spirit artist, Shawnee Kish is now embarking on an exhilarating new chapter, confidently charting a course into the Alternative Country genre. This bold evolution showcases her versatility and commitment to authentic storytelling through sound. Her highly anticipated country-inspired single is set to drop this Friday, June 20, 2025, followed by her debut country-inspired album on July 25, 2025
