NASARIMBA

NASARIMBA, meaning “playful mischief,” is the practice of Canadian artists, Rachel Ziriada (BFA UVic 2014) and Mikhail Miller (BFA AUArts 2006). The duo investigates aspects of everyday life filtered through lenses of abstraction. Their interests in early-twentieth century modernist movements combine with aesthetics of collage, digital design, printmaking and graffiti to create a shared perspective. NASARIMBA’s work in printmaking, painting and assemblage sculpture informs their production of large-scale public murals.

Over the course of three months in 2023, NASARIMBA participated in artist residencies in Mexico City and Guadalajara where they painted several murals and worked on their studio practice. Their murals are seen across Canada and Mexico and have been featured in Canadian festivals including BUMP (Calgary), Wall-to-Wall (Winnipeg)and Rust Magic (Edmonton). Mikhail and Rachel live and work together in Mohkinstsis, Treaty 7 Territory (Calgary, Alberta).
